The very first foray into working with ceramic materials for Susannah was when she cut a vertical slice down one side of a porcelain cylinder using a large industrial saw. That was in 1997. Since then each work that she has created using this technique is quite unique - the process of making the slices in the clay leaves a layered effect that filters the light. The action and angle of the saw blade dictate the end result as much as Susannah’s intent, so each light displays individual character.
